Ethel Kennedy To Endorse Barack Obama

Ethel Kennedy

Who? Ethel Kennedy, wife of Robert “Bobby” Kennedy, who was assassinated in 1968 while he was seeking the democratic nomination for the Presidency. Bobby was also the brother of President John F. Kennedy.

As everyone knows by now, the Kennedy clan is divided in the race for the Democratic nomination.

Now Ethel Kennedy, weighs in — for Obama. “Over these past few years, I’ve watched Senator Obama inspire Americans from all walks of life to believe in real change and a new sense of hope and possibility. He’s a magnetic force, drawing the nation together for the common good and galvanizing us all to help shape our country’s future,” she said in a statement released by the Obama campaign.

“Barack is so like Bobby, who struggled for the rights of the poor in the Mississippi Delta and Appalachia, traveled to California to stand in solidarity with Cesar Chavez and farm workers, and fought to end another war that cost so many lives. Today, we crave a leader with vision who can help us regain our lost humanity and rekindle our inherent generosity. With courage, caring, and charisma, Senator Obama is leading us toward a kinder, gentler world.”

It is amazing at the number of spouses and family members of former Presidents, that are coming out of the wood work to endorse people for President. Most of these family members people haven’t heard of, or haven’t heard their name in many, many years. Why come out of virtual obscurity to endorse someone? It’s either one of two reasons, either you sincerely want to try to give a candidate a possible boost, or you want a few minutes, or in some cases a few more minutes, of fame. Hopefully, it is the first reason.
