Barack Obama Finally Leaves Trinity UCC Church
Barack Obama and his family finally resigned their membership at Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago after nearly 20 years of faithfulness to the church. Obama finally realized that you don’t need political enemies when you have a church home like Trinity.
“It’s clear that now that I’m a candidate for president, every time something is said in the church by anyone associated with Trinity, including guest pastors, the remarks will be imputed to me, even if they totally conflict with my long-held views, statements and principles,” he said, praising the congregation and church leaders for their work in the Chicago community.
“It’s not fair to the other members of the church who seek to worship in peace, so our faith remains strong and I suspect we will find another church home for our family.”
In Obama’s May 30 letter to the church, he wrote that his relationship with the church had been “strained” by the statements of Wright.
The decision comes after Father Michael Pfleger ridiculed and mocked Hillary Clinton from the Trinity pulpit last weekend (see video). Pfleger’s performance seemed to be the knock out punch after retired senior pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s racial and political comments from past sermons surfaced two months ago.

Aging actress Susan Sarandon is again making promises she is very unlikely to keep. This time the Bull Durham star is promising to move out of the country if John McCain is elected President.
She says if John McCain gets elected, she will move to Italy or Canada. She adds, “It’s a critical time, but I have faith in the American people.”
She is not the first actor or person to Hollywood to vow to leave the country if a candidate wins the Presidency. Alec Baldwin promised to leave the country if George Bush was elected back in 2000, but Baldwin is still in the States berating his daughter and making bad TV.

Father Michael Pfleger was preaching at Rev. Jeremiah Wright’s Trinity Church in Chicago this past weekend and like Wright he took the pulpit to mock Hillary Clinton. Barack Obama is already in apologetic mode for Pfleger’s comments.
Pfleger has issued an apology for his comments. I am still surprised they let a white man preach at Trinity.

Michelle Malkin’s Take on Pfleger
Rachel Ray and the Terrorist Keffiyeh
Dunkin’ Donuts has pulled a commercial advertisement on TV that featured do-it-all Rachel Ray. The ad was pulled because Ray was wearing something that very closely resembled a keffiyeh (a popular fashion piece of terrorists). Michelle Malkin brought the attention to light in her syndicated column and on her blog MichelleMalkin.com:
My syndicated column today examines the keffiyeh kerfuffle with Dunkin’ Donuts and Rachael Ray that I noted on the blog last week. As you’ll recall, I linked to an item by LGF’s Charles Johnson about the scarf she wore in a recent Dunkin’ ad. Keffiyeh chic has been covered on this site and at Hot Air extensively (see here, here, and here). Anti-American fashion designers abroad and at home have mainstreamed and adapted the scarves as generic pro-Palestinian jihad or anti-war statements. Yet many folks out there remain completely oblivious to the apparel’s violent symbolism and anti-Israel overtones. Left-wing bloggers responded with complete scorn, deliberate mischaracterizations of the debate, and then outrage when Dunkin’ Donuts commendably showed sensitivity to the concerns and pulled the ad.
In her column she went into detail about the hate behind the keffiyeh:
The keffiyeh, for the clueless, is the traditional scarf of Arab men that has come to symbolize murderous Palestinian jihad. Popularized by Yasser Arafat and a regular adornment of Muslim terrorists appearing in beheading and hostage-taking videos, the apparel has been mainstreamed by both ignorant (and not so ignorant) fashion designers, celebrities and left-wing icons.

Former White House Press Secretary Scott McClellan in his best effort to pay for his retirement fund has released his new book about his days working for President Bush.
The book is called “What Happened: Inside the Bush White House and Washington’s Culture of Deception.”
Here are a few highlights from McClellan’s book:
- McClellan charges that Bush relied on “propaganda” to sell the war.
- He says the White House press corps was too easy on the administration during the run-up to the war.
- He admits that some of his own assertions from the briefing room podium turned out to be “badly misguided.”
- The longtime Bush loyalist also suggests that two top aides held a secret West Wing meeting to get their story straight about the CIA leak case at a time when federal prosecutors were after them — and McClellan was continuing to defend them despite mounting evidence they had not given him all the facts.
- McClellan asserts that the aides — Karl Rove, the president’s senior adviser, and I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, the vice president’s chief of staff — “had at best misled” him about their role in the disclosure of former CIA operative Valerie Plame’s identity.
- Steve Hadley, then the deputy national security adviser, said about the erroneous assertion about Saddam Hussein seeking uranium, included in the State of the Union address of 2003: “Signing off on these facts is my responsibility. … And in this case, I blew it. I think the only solution is for me to resign.” The offer “was rejected almost out of hand by others present,” McClellan writes.
- Bush was “clearly irritated, … steamed,” when McClellan informed him that chief economic adviser Larry Lindsey had told The Wall Street Journal that a possible war in Iraq could cost from $100 billion to $200 billion: “‘It’s unacceptable,’ Bush continued, his voice rising. ‘He shouldn’t be talking about that.’”
- “As press secretary, I spent countless hours defending the administration from the podium in the White House briefing room. Although the things I said then were sincere, I have since come to realize that some of them were badly misguided.”
- “History appears poised to confirm what most Americans today have decided: that the decision to invade Iraq was a serious strategic blunder. No one, including me, can know with absolute certainty how the war will be viewed decades from now when we can more fully understand its impact. What I do know is that war should only be waged when necessary, and the Iraq war was not necessary.”
- McClellan describes his preparation for briefing reporters during the Plame frenzy: “I could feel the adrenaline flowing as I gave the go-ahead for Josh Deckard, one of my hard-working, underpaid press office staff, … to give the two-minute warning so the networks could prepare to switch to live coverage the moment I stepped into the briefing room.”
Do you believe the veracity of McClellan’s book or does he just have an axe to grind? I am sure it is parts truth mixed with large amounts of embellishment to help sell more books.

John McCain is in Arizona hosting three potential Vice Presidential running mates for his long hard run to Novembers election. He is meeting this weekend at his Arizona home with Florida governor Charlie Crist, Louisiana governor Bobby Jindal, and former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney.
The two governors, Charlie Crist, of Florida, and Bobby Jindal, of Louisiana, have both accepted invitations to meet with McCain at his home in Arizona, according to Republican familiars with the decision. One Republican said that Mitt Romney, a former rival of McCain for the presidential nomination was also expected to visit him this weekend. Romney’s advisers declined to comment.
If the running mate comes out of these three then I have to think it likely will be Charlie Crist simply because he is governor of Florida which will play a huge role in determining who becomes the next President.
Jindal would be the most interesting choice of the three. He is a 36-year old Roman Catholic Indian. He might be the perfect yang to McCain’s ying.

Jordan died peacefully in his Atlanta, Georgia, home surrounded by his family, according to a statement from Camp Sunshine, a nonprofit camp for children with cancer that he and his wife, Dorothy, founded in 1982.
Carter said he and his wife, Rosalynn, were “deeply saddened” by the news of Jordan’s death. “Hamilton was my closest political adviser, a trusted confidant and my friend. His judgment, insight and wisdom were excelled only by his compassion and love of our country,” Carter said, according to The Associated Press.
Hamilton and his wife founded Camp Kudzu for children with Type 1 Diabetes. He also founded Camp Sunshine for children with cancer.
Jordan is survived by his wife Dorothy.

Senator Ted Kennedy has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor according to doctors in Boston.
Kennedy was hospitalized on Saturday after suffering two seizures. The first seizure took place at his Hyannisport mansion. The second occurred as he was being airlifted to a Boston hospital.
Here is part of the statement from Dr. Lee Schwamm and Dr. Larry Ronan who are attending to Kennedy:
“Over the course of the last several days, we’ve done a series of tests on Sen. Kennedy to determine the cause of his seizure. He has had no further seizures, remains in good overall condition, and is up and walking around the hospital. Some of the tests we had performed were inconclusive, particularly in light of the fact that the senator had severe narrowing of the left carotid artery and underwent surgery just 6 months ago. However, preliminary results from a biopsy of the brain identified the cause of the seizure as a malignant glioma in the left parietal lobe. The usual course of treatment includes combinations of various forms of radiation and chemotherapy. Decisions regarding the best course of treatment for Sen. Kennedy will be determined after further testing and analysis. Sen. Kennedy will remain at Massachusetts General Hospital for the next couple of days according to routine protocol. He remains in good spirits and full of energy.”
The survival rate usually ranges from 1-5 years depending on the size of the tumor.
Ted is 76-years old and is currently married to Victoria Reggie Kennedy.

The Democrats and the DNC have launced McCainpedia (how original!) to show conflicting statements, inconsistencies, flip-flops, and missed votes by John McCain as a Senator.
The “online encyclopedia” is the latest Internet tool used by the DNC to engage voters in the election process, spokesman Dag Vega said in a press release issued Monday.
The multimedia Web site, which lists the Arizona senator’s positions on the issues, allows viewers to watch, download and use video taken by Democratic trackers of McCain on the campaign trail.
It posts rebuttals to McCain’s views on a host of subjects ranging from the economy to same-sex marriage. Of McCain’s position on the Iraq war, the site criticizes him for “spouting rosy and empty rhetoric” and missing 22 votes on the war while traveling around the country campaigning in the general election.
