Huckabee Looks To Be Done

Update 9:30 PM:  Mike Huckabee  drops out race and endorses Sen. John McCain
After a lot of laughs and some votes for former Governor of Arkansas Mike Huckabee, it is looking like he will withdraw from the Presidential race tomorrow.

A Huckabee senior aide tells NBC/National Journal that Huckabee tonight will congratulate McCain and will be in touch with the McCain campaign tomorrow from Little Rock to coordinate a concession.

“The handwriting is on the wall,” the aide said, indicating that was the plan whether or not McCain officially reaches 1,191 delegates tonight.

The aide said that Huckabee wants to have contact with McCain tomorrow in Little Rock before deciding what next to do.

Huckabee Would Like A Nasty Story By The New York Times

Mike Huckabee in New Hampshire

Mike Huckabee is continuing his Republican bid for Presidency, and looks to be seeking another title too, Jester of the Republican Party. Mike Huckabee speaking on the campaign trial, at a school in Rhode Island, said that he hopes the New York Times does a horrible front page story on him and also stated that he had no desire to run for Senate.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Huckabee said he believed the New York Times article linking McCain to a female lobbyist helped the Republican front-runner, and hopes the paper does a similar story about him.

Speaking at the Community Preparatory School Monday, he also ruled out a run for the U.S. Senate. After touring the school and speaking at length to a music class, he said that any moment could change a campaign, and it could happen to any candidate. Asked whether he thought the recent McCain article was a “Makaka” moment, Huckabee said “obviously, that one didn’t seem to make a big difference.”

“In fact, if anything, it’s really helped John McCain, and I’m kinda hoping the New York Times will take me on and run a nasty front-page story,” he said. “It’s maybe the best thing that could happen to me; it certainly was to him.”

Huckabee responded to questions about him seeking the Senate with a strong “no way.”

“Let me go ahead and put that one to rest,” he said. “As I said in Washington a couple weeks ago and this is about as clear as I can put it, there’s a greater likelihood of me dying my hair green, tatooing my body, and going on tour with Amy Winehouse other than me running for the senate this year. Not happening.”

Huckabee stressed the importance of creative arts education at the school, repeating his initiative to mandate art and music class. He also played a few bars of “Rising Sun” to the class and asked the students to sing along, but no one seemed to know what the song was.

Boston’s Tom Sholz Tells Huckabee He Can’t Have “Feeling”

 Mike Huckabee

In something almost hysterical, has been rocker Tom Sholz of Boston says that he does not want Republican Candidate Mike Huckabee to use Boston’s song “More Than A Feeling”, during his campaign journey.

While campaigning, Huckabee has often played bass guitar while performing the Boston song, “More Than a Feeling.” Scholz sent Huckabee a letter Thursday saying he was “shocked” that the presidential candidate would use “the name Boston to promote yourself without my consent.”

“Boston has never endorsed a political candidate and with all due respect, would not start by endorsing a candidate who is the polar opposite of most everything Boston stands for. In fact, although I’m impressed you learned my bass guitar part on ‘More Than a Feeling,’ I am an Obama supporter,” Scholz wrote.

“By using my song, and my band’s name Boston, you have taken something of mine and used it to promote ideas to which I am opposed. In other words, I think I’ve been ripped off, dude!”

Scholz wrote and arranged the song which became the group’s signature.

Fred Bramante, who was chairman of Huckabee’s New Hampshire campaign, called the allegations ridiculous. He said he attended dozens of Huckabee rallies in New Hampshire and other states and never heard Huckabee play “More Than a Feeling,” other than when Goudreau campaigned with him in Iowa in October. ”
Governor Huckabee plays ‘Sweet Home Alabama.’ Does that mean Lynard Skynard is endorsing him? He plays ‘Louie Louie.’ Does that mean The Kingsmen are endorsing him? To me, it’s ridiculous,” he said. “Never once has he said, ‘The band Boston endorses me.’”                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Scholz is not the only rocker to object to a candidate’s use of his music. John Mellencamp, who endorsed John Edward’s failed candidacy, asked Sen. John McCain to stop using his song “Our Country.”
McCain did.

Delegate Count For Republican Presidential Race

With the nomination pretty much wrapped up and a short weekend scare from Huckabee, John McCain is statistically going to get to the 1,191 delegates needed for the Republican nomination.  With that said, it would be hard to imagine him not being the nominee baring some sort of catastrophe.

McCain Asks Huckabee To Quit Race, Nicely

John McCain

Not so long ago Republican Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee was asked by Tim Russert,  if anyone had asked him to quit his campaign for President, and Huckabee stated that no one had.  They have now, as John McCain asked him Wednesday to quit.  Now that someone has asked will Huckabee step down?

Earlier today, McCain said that he’d like Huckabee to end his candidacy, but that he also respects the former Arkansas governor’s right to continue his campaign. Davis remarked that the sooner Huckabee quits, the better it would be for McCain and the GOP — but he noted that Huckabee remaining in the race does have its benefits. “He creates a narrative that allows us to go out and compete.” Also: “Winning is a good thing.” And Davis said that Huckabee in the GOP race draws media attention away from the Clinton-Obama contest.

Presidential Candidates Are Invited To Science Debate

Four out of the six people running for President have been invited to take place in a Science debate in Philadelphia. This would probably be hilarious , if it could get enough support and this actually happened.

The four top presidential candidates – Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama for the Democrats, Mike Huckabee and John McCain for the Republicans – have been invited to discuss science and technology issues at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia on April 18, according to the organizers of Science Debate 2008. If the event actually occurs, it would take place four days before Pennsylvania’s presidential primary.

The effort to put science and technology in the campaign spotlight has some high-powered boosters – most recently Intel Chairman Craig Barrett, who said in a statement today that “the future economic success of the United States depends on outperforming the competition with smart people and smart ideas.”

However, it’s debatable whether the event will actually get off the ground. The candidates have to calculate the risks vs. benefits of discussing science – particularly in mid-April, when the nomination may (or, admittedly, may not) be decided.

There’s not yet been any word from any of the campaigns about whether anyone has accepted the invitation. The Science Debate organizers say they’d go ahead with the “debate” even if just one candidate showed up. By the way, GOP hopeful Ron Paul hasn’t been invited because his support hasn’t risen to the 15 percent level.

Huckabee To Challenge Washington State Results

Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee is challenging the results of the Washington State Caucus.  CNN has yet to confirm a winner and MSNBC has depicted that John McCain has won the Caucus, with 13% of the ballots still out.  Ron Paul’s people are of course chiming in that Ron Paul can still win Washington.

Huckabee may have a point here, considering that the race was called, when the media network’s were still saying that it is to close to call.

Meanwhile, Republican Mike Huckabee’s campaign — fresh off of two stunning weekend wins — is “exploring all available legal options regarding the dubious final results” in the one state the former Arkansas governor didn’t come out on top, Washington State. (Hours earlier, Huckabee had complained to reporters that the vote in Louisiana was “a weird deal” and “kind of cooked” in favor of John McCain. He ended up taking the top prize in that state’s GOP primary, 43 to 42 percent over likely Republican nominee McCain — though that won’t mean he gets the delegates at stake, because he failed to meet the 50 percent threshold required under state party rules.)
